Couple 1? tidbits:
The first Lincoln penny was circulated Aug. 2 1909 replacing the Indian Head coin.
In 1943 the zinc coated steel pennies saved enough copper to make 1.25 million WW2 ammunition shells.
Each penny costs the mint 1.4 cents to produce.
