Most of the posts concerning websites stating info on rare and valuable U.S. coins seem to have expired so I will bring  up the subject again. What websites would you coin hunters use to find out what years and types of U.S. coins are rare or how many minted etc. I'm a newbie and don't have any knowledge as to whether that old coin pulled from the soil is "extra special" or not.  Thanks for your help!

Hm, I don't really know of any kind of website that would lend out information about any US coin.  I get the annual Red Book at my local coin store, hard bind and ring.  I have read and read the coin books, and I am myself basically a coin book. Grin I absolutely adore coins, just US though.  If you have any questions concerning coins, you can just drop me a message or something like that. Wink

I concur with the previous post.  The Red Book is a good source for this information for U.S. Coinage.  For earlier coinage in what became the U.S., the Whitman Encyclopedia of Colonial and Early American Coins, Q. David Bowers is a good source.  If you really want to get a ton of comprehensive detail for all eras pursuant to coinage in the United States (incl. Colonial Times), there is also Walter Breen's Complete Encyclopedia of U.S. and Colonial Coins, Walter Breen.
