Go Up Go Down

Hi
All, I'm fairly new to metal detecting and have not posted here before, but there's something that's been bugging me and I want to get it off my chest.

I belong to a prospecting club that holds metal detecting outings at local beaches about once per month. The announcement goes out that there will be a detecting outing at 8 AM at such and such a beach, but the guy organizing the outing usually adds a note saying he will be out there detecting at 6 AM. So, he (and often his wife) get a two hour jump on everyone else in the club. I think in a club sponsored detecting outing, everyone should start at the same time, just like in a kids' Easter Egg Hunt.

Has anyone else had a similar problem with people giving themselves a head start in so-called friendly competitions, and if so how did you deal with it? By the way, the guy giving himself a two-hour head start is a long-time member of the club and is a detector dealer as well. One thing is certain, I'll never buy anything from this guy, new or used. Looking forward to reading what people here think of this. Is there a sportsmanship or metal detecting code of ethics that covers this?  I plan on bringing this up at our next club meeting.
Tom

I'm more of a night owl than an early bird, so I think I may try detecting the day or night before. Those LED headlamps work great for moonlight detecting.

I have to agree with Homie. On this one.

I'm not a fan of group hunts etc.

And not just metal detecting but about every kind of club there is.
Always somebody who bends the rules in some way to benefit themselves or their buddies.
