Don't be shy! Any input is most welcome!

Homefire:
Newbie of the Week.

Pick one Newbie each week to be gifted in some fashion.

I have a hand full of Foreign coins I could send out one a week for say two months?  I would cover the coin and Post over two months?

Pick a Newbie that contributes the best over there first month here.   Put there name up in lights on the banner?

Members with Activity of 100 over a 3 month time, gets there name in lights?

If we ever get the Store working again, I could donate my Gold in Prizes to say people who have been 100% over a 6 month period?

Recognition for anyone who brings up the most popular treasure hunting subject?

A Spanking Award for the Rudest Member of the Month?

First let me say, what a great forum..... glad I stumbled across it!
No offense Christian and gang, but I find it a bit slow and cumbersome here. Anything that can be done to speed things up, response time when you click on a topic, speed of screens coming up and what not? Am I the only one having trouble?
Homefire has some outstanding suggestions, well done!
Maybe it'd be a good idea to let people lurk a bit, you know...check it and hang out some before joining? Maybe a couple visits. That would be friendly.
Speaking of friendly, the reminder I got in my in box recently was brilliant. Thanks Christian, I had forgotten all about joining. The 'notify me of replies" apparently isn't working so well?
Thanks and keep it up!
Rob

CptEvil:
Hi!

First of all I must say that I really like this site! I think there’s a lot of good content and many clever and friendly users!

But I think it could be packaged somewhat better. First of all I would like to see a large attachment size. I see many users complaining about others posting pictures with too low quality, and I also have experienced the problem converting pictures to lower resolution in order to fit the size limit. It’s a little tricky to get it right, and it easily gets too compressed instead. I think this may lead to that some users don’t post pictures. I understand that this may be a server space issue, but if it could be solved it would be nice! =)

Another minor annoying thing is that it’s quite easy to accidentally click someone’s profile instead of the post (or message in the pm’s).

Again, thanks for a very nice site!

luckyp:
Hello,
I am fairly new but not to detecting and others forums.Originally I was looking for international informations on beachcombing and came accross to the article of Alan hassel that opened my eyes particularly on the movements of the sea.For that I will always be greatfull to this forum.
Like every forum there is up and down. The following are fews remarks that can be of interest:
*Lack of identity
Very difficult on google to identify the provenance of Thunting. If a change of name is not suitable why not follow it by a signature " Your world to International detection"

As for beach and shallow waters this section should be labeled "International beachcombing"
When the ground is frozen the land detectorists goes in hibernation but the beachcomber is still alive.

*Moderators
I think this section  is big enough to have his own.A specialiste who knows what he is talking about.Going to community board and list of moderators there is nobody that specialise in beaches and shallows waters. One section with a large follow up
*Pictures.
Yes I do not think thumbnails and pictures before opening a message are a good idea.I am the first one certainly having created a negative impression which was not my original intention.
*Private messages.
Very difficult to manage as your sending disapear unless if you are lucky enough to find a save key.I was not.
* General Ideas
To have a friendly and users friendly forum, attractive enough to have all ours friends in the world with the same passion share our ideas.

Thank you for listening.Pierre

First of all thank you all for your remarks and suggestions! They are most appreciated!

@ Homefire: I plan on running more regular contests and give out awards to the members. Thanks for the suggestions!

@ Rob: Thanks for your thoughts. I olan on miving the site to a faster host within the next couple of months. This should speed up things. The topic notification should be working fine but had been disabled for the past two months. Please let me know if you expirience any more problems with the notification and I will take a look at it.

The attachment size is actually quite large at 500 kb. A good quality image at 1024 x 800 Pixels resolution shouldn't be more than 200 - 300 kb max. However when you take the images directly of your camera without resizing them they will likely be around 2 - 5 MB depending on your settings. This is too much to be handled by a server.

Done :)

I hope our new slogan will help here.

Quote:Posted by luckypthere is nobody that specialise in beaches and shallows

That's true! We could need a couple more knowledgeable mods, especially in beach hunting and various metal detector brands. So if anybody feels like helping out or knows someone who can please drop me a line!

Quote:Posted by luckypYes I do not think thumbnails and pictures before opening a message are a good idea.I am the first one certainly having created a negative impression which was not my original intention.

Here I unfortunatekly have to disagree since I think the thumbnails on the index pages make it easier to navigate and serve in raising people interest.

I can set it so they will be safed by default.

Any more suggestions are most welcome!

Thank you!

We have several mods that have been water hunting since the early 70's when we had to build our own equipment and waterproof our detectors. Plus we have a member who has written several books on water hunting so the experience and knowledge is here you just have to ask
