Go Up Go Down

I've never been thrown off a 4 legged critter, came close a few times, and have seen a lot of people get their faces flung in the dust.  Got a hopper horse one time...  not a mule.  Staying in the mountains near a store/cabin, rustic resort.  Bad thunder storm went through one night.  Next morning I saw smoke up on the mountain in the timber.  Went to the resort & told the owner.  He decided we needed to check it out.  Got out two of his horses and he and I rode up.  Had to cross a stream and climb a 3 to 4 foot bank.  His horse did it like it was something he did everyday.  Mine got to the bank and instead of climbing it decide to hop up it.  Got give her credit, she sure tried!   Hop, Hop, Hoppity Hop, Hop, Hop!  I was about to go into the water and rocks, so the next time she went up I stepped off on the bank, pulled the reins tight and guided he up the bank!  She did a good job the rest of the way up and back.  Turned out the smoke was from a old downed, dry tree trunk that lightning had struck and it was smoldering and smoking.  When we got back, we notified the forest service.  No fire resulted from it.   The mare was good after that.  Me too!
