Download some antyspyware programs and run them usually a slow computer is caused by spyware and too many cookies that have accumulated,  i only use free programs it usually takes 2 or 3 different antyspyware programs to do a good job of cleaning your computer since no single program is armed with enough information to catch all spyware . i use superantyspyware free addition and advanced system care free also i use comodo maleware finder i do not run them every day sometimes not even for a week or so but when i notice my speed dropping i run them and usually the results are great the programs always find crap and once deleted my computer zips along real good. Do not let anyone bullshit you paid antyspyware programs are no better then free ones i sometimes clean some of my friends computers that are paying for programs and i still have found sometimes even serval thousand spywares and crap on some of my friends machines once i run a few different applications like i mentioned above their computers run like new again. do not download things from everywere on the computer i only download programs from 2 sites Majorgeeks.com and Cnet.com the stuff one gets from these 2 sites is clean and good . i am sure there are a few more good places to get programs but so far these 2 sites have met my needs just fine . My motto is if it is not broken do not fix it.

Another real goodie is "Tweaknow" registry cleaner.
It got rid of loads of old rubbish laying around in the registry on my p.c.
Real good! - speeded it up no end!

Free AVG is a good as they get.

It has let a few get buy but so would have any of the Paid protections.

Until there reported or detected, your machine is just fresh meat.

10 years now using AVG and only two hits.  Not Bad for Free , Eaaaa?

Both was correctable by cranking the start date back a week or two.

Defrag the disc twice and never never go back to the date of conception.

Ive had to do the system restore on my puter a few times when I left myself unprotected. Never again. Good info for free. Some shops would charge to do the exact same thing. Thanks  Steve

ccleaner is an excellent program, it will clean all the old temp files, cache, prefetch data, cookies.... loads of stuff. first time i ran it  got back nearly 4 Gb of drive space!!!
it also has a registry cleaner, plus you can select exactly what it will or will not delete.
first time you run it it can take a few minutes to complete.
