Homefire, the TWAIN system allows the direct capture of scanned images, camera images or screen captures into your paint program. Microsoft includes a rudimentary paint program in every version of Windows. If you enter the paint program, there will be a capture or acquire menu option which will then ask you to assign a TWAIN device to your software. If you have more than one legally assigned device driver, it will show all of them on a list for you to select. If the Phillips driver is installed and the hardware is recognized, you will see it on the list. If not, you will have to download a TWAIN driver from Phillips.

As this problem is in the old gray matter here being cogitated, something else occurred to me that may be relevant. Some laptops cannot handle the power requirements of external devices beyond around 80ma. This could be an issue with an older camera. Rather than allow you to damage your USB port, it cuts it off if the power loading is too great. They now sell feed through USB adapters with power injectors to give a boost to the port of up to 500ma. A powered hub would do the trick, too, if that happens to be the problem.

Here's an inexpensive powered hub. $22.00 with postage included.

From my prospective it was working fine on the other toshiba 105 lap top.

It still works fine on it.

They did something.

I uninstalled that program and funny enough, the computer can still see the camera being plugged in.

Knap Time here.    Back in 40 minutes unless WW decides I need to stay longer.

Just remember that the power is reduced in modern laptops to save battery power. Some fools were plugging in USB coffee cup warmer hot plates and wondering why their USB ports were getting blown. The USB 3.0 port spec now calls for a crowbar circuit to disconnect overloads. I can't remember the exact rating but as I said earlier, it's only around 80ma now. Just good enough for charging a phone, using a mouse but some scanners which used to be USB powered, need a boost. Some cameras may too.

I checked the power rating for the USB specification and it says 150ma, not 80ma. Still not much for a CCD device.

I went to the actual specifications but the Wikipedia site explains it in layman's terms with technical sprinkled in.
