Now is a good time to keep your eye on this stretch of sand, she says. It's hurricane season, when a big storm can stir up the ocean floor and bring a bit of treasure to shore. Sometimes shoe buckles and buttons have come ashore, along with the coins. . . . "

Sue....I've hunted coin beach, Dewey beach and the Rehobeth area beaches in the early 70s. never found much but talked to a lot of people who did. They always told us to hang around till after a storm. Guess the beach is still producing!!

Jim, neat that you've been there. It sounded, in the story, like a neat place to detect. Luck & timing would be big factors. Kind of puts a new definition twist to 'storm chasers'  Smiley Sue

Hello Sue,  I will be going to Coin Beach, De. on Tuesday this week, will be staying at Bethany Beach, New to the area, I have no detector at present, Are there any places at Bethany where I can purchase a good one?......Scanner
Thanks for the history on coin Beach DE.  Heading down there on Tuesday, staying at Bethany Beach until Friday noon, then heading back to Pa.  Hopefully with a tiny bit of loot.  First I need to find a place that rents or sells Detectors.  I had a beginners model but gave it to my grandson, and he broke it.  Is there a visitors area near Coin City, do not know where to start when I get there or what to expect............Scanner

Hi Scanner - I can't help you, unfortunately. I've never been to Delaware - I just posted the story thinking it might be of interest to people living in the area. If I were you, I'd see about getting or renting a detector where you live and take it along. You might do a google search for suppliers in your area. Good luck and let us know how you do there - Danielle may turn into a hurricane and make for great beach hunting. Sue

Hi Sue, Thanks for your reply. Returned from Delaware, Coin Beach, unable to find any rentals, everyone wanted to sell me Detectors, $600 and up.  Can't afford that, but did get to talk with some very nice people in the area. Visited Shipwreck Museum, and was astonished with the amount of treasure the owner found over the years, The owner had an episode of one of his recent dives on the History Channel, I do remember watching it. Just out of this world.  so is the Museum, you would not believe what he has there.  His web site is:

Yes, I am watching the Hurricane, and there are two more coming in.  Would like to get back to the area end of Sept or October after a storm.  It is a 4.5 hour drive for me, my legs are giving me some trouble, but I am a very determined person.  Please talk with me again.  I do enjoy corresponding with folks who share the same interest I do..........Tom

Scanner, Sept is a nice time to visit. Just remember the summer visitors are gone and the resorts tend to close. Same with the restaurants. Bethany is a nice beach. Like I mentioned to Sue, haven't been back there in many moons. Save up and maybe get a used machine for the fall.
