The lift bag is one of the most under utalized pieces of dive equipment I know. If you are not recovering something it just sits in the bottom of the gear bag. Put a small 2.5 lb weight and use it as a marker for detecting in a slowly increasing circle. When hunting an underwater structure use it to hold up overhanging beams to safely support them while you investagate around them. Put a short line of about ten feet on it and tie it to your dredge nozzle to take some of the load off you. Cool

Berry lift bags can be dangerous if you don't know how to use them. They are also expensive and difficult to find. Be careful.

You got that right. I have had to explain many times that it is a lift bag, not a pulling bag. Too often I see people misuse them. That can be deadly. Example of this would be tying a 400# lift bag to a 35# prop to pull it out of the mud. When it clears the bottom it is going to be a rocket. If you get your fingers cought in the straping you are going for an explosive decompression. Once it hits the surface it very well may break free and chase you back to the bottom. Yes sir it is no toy and should be used very carefully.

A must, when infltaing lift bags, is to skeep your body, and gear, away from enteglement on the device straps, and cables, a cerful pre inflation inspection should be done, prior to release it

With proper training, and gaining experience through time, releasing a lift bag can really become a safe procedure.
But, even with the right tools, NEVER underestimate the inherent risks
Safe diving

I cannot stress but agree with all of the above.  Lift bags are defiantly an under used item when it comes to diving.  However, with out proper training, lift bags can be extremely dangerous.  I have witnessed issues with lift bags that almost resulted in a diver suffering a major case of the bends.  This incident happened during a controlled environment training dive.  Several weeks later though, the same diver, with further training, made use of 4 lift bags totaling 8000lbs of lifting power, to begin to raise a small sunken boat.

Be careful, and dive safe.  There are defiantly treasures in the depths, but none are worth your life.

Hi guys, this is my 5th post so hopefully I'll be able to post a picture or two later on the lift bag we had made locally.
I suppose if one can minimise a dewatering valve and incorperate it into the dump valve then one would have a great lift bag. My dad has patented a dewatering valve...it releases preassure as it rises, once fitted to a deck it can pump anything into and out of the hull simultaneously.
Just need the marketing now  :Smiley

Mate, you can post a picture any time but not from the Quick Reply screen. You need to use the full Reply button (top of the message itself) or the Quote button (again, just above the message you are reading now). One other way, if you forget to use those two buttons, is to use the Preview button which is found below the Quick Reply block. That puts you into another screen that allows attachments.

Then use the attachment buttons below the reply box. Bear in mind that your attached pictures cannot exceed 1Megabyte in total. That means all of your photos combined cannot be equal to or greater than that. In the downloads section, there is a program called Photo Resizer that will shrink your images with little or no loss. It's a commercial program to which I own the rights for distribution and I give it to members here free.

In fact, I'll attach it here and you can grab it now. It does not install, but runs as a stand alone program under Windows. It's very small.
