Most of you guys are looking for something hidden on land . Do you realize that there is much more underwater than there is ashore . Find yourself a location where there may be a shipwreck and start detecting . I would use a PI detector with discrimination possibilities . You may find an old anchor  or some cannon  or even some gold or silver coins . Even an old tug boat will have a lot of goodies still onboard . Expand your horizon a little  and start diving .  Cornelius

Just purchased a Garrett Sea Hunter MKII for underwater detecting, but I will mostly do mine wading off Florida beaches. I'm going to Fiesta Key next week on my first underwater MDing expedition. I'm 71 years old and have my diving certification, but I haven't dived in 20 years. Don't think I will be diving.

If you are going to be doing some serious underwater metal detecting, dont scrimp, get the best. All the pros use the Aquapulse. The complete set is expensive (around $2,500) but worth the price!

I live in Tavernier fl on a sailing trimaran. love to snorkle, but would love to tow, or swim with a detector around the reefs. I don't know what the P I is. can you explain.

PI stands for pulse induction and means a metal detector system whoch is not affected by mineralized soil (like in salt water) but has generally no iron discrimination either.

Unless you use the DBP 2010  PI Detector . It will discriminate  . Eugene has the complete file on this detector . I sent it to him . If he wants to inform you guys is up to him .  I would suggest that he will open up the COMPLETE file though !    Cornelius

I have an underwater detector plus my scuba certification. My problem is finding someone to dive and detect with. Everyone I talk with either wants to detect and don't have scuba certs or they want to dive and are not interested in detecting. I live in Lakeland, Fl. and would love the chance to get my detector wet.

Sounds like a match made in heaven. You detect while your dive buddy takes pictures.

Why not give SCUBA another try?  71 yrs old is not too old to be diving.  Costeau was diving into his 80's if I recall correctly.

It it is a physical thing, see if you can use a Hookah unit.  You could dive in the range of up of 50' in depth. 

I'm still diving, although I don't really want to do any ice diving here in MN.  The water is at its best but just don't think it is something you can do with any safety or practicality when it comes to underwater metal detecting.

I'm using a Pulse 8 by Fisher, an Excalibur and an older Sea Hunter.  I plan on doing a lot of TH'ing when I retire later this year.

I'm 72 and hope to keep diving until I'm totally unable to handle the task.  I bought a Hookah a month ago so will also try using that too.  I've made the investment, so now I'm committed.  Oh, Yeah, I also bought a Sea Eagle rubber boat to use in this venture.

I love ocean diving as the water is clear, and there is so much to see, but the lakes can be fun and productive if you work 'em right.  They are colder, even in summer, and not so clear, but I suppose that is the challenge.
