Has anyone heard of dowsing working to find anything other than water. When I was drilling water wells, a lot of people used dowsers, but water in an aquafer is quite common, so not hard to hit in a lot of places. Coins and other things people search for are rare, and I have never seen a dowser find where any have been buried.

Has anyone seen dowsing work for finding buried coins or treasure?

BilBear,

I'm splitting your post off and starting a new topic for it on a more appropriate board (besides, that was an old topic that had managed to get way off the original topic).

Short answer is "Yes, people dowse for more than just water".
My local GPAA chapter has a long time member that regularly gives demonstrations on dowsing for gold and then let's folks try their luck during common dig outings.

Although I have not personally witnessed it myself I have heard stories of people that have indeed used it to find caches and have been quite successful at it.  Seems to me that I've even seen a few video clips of it as well.  Though it is a widely debated subject by some dowsing has always intrigued me and one of these days I'll get around to trying it for myself.  If you should happen to try I'd love to hear what your results are.  I have heard that it works for some but not for all.  Just one of those things I guess where some people have a talent for it and some don't I guess.

A gentleman showed me how he does this. So I tried. Nothing worked at all for me. So my wife took a run at it. She had good luck at making the stick shack. But we never pushed it any further. Frankly it was just a little bit strange.

I'm not a dowser (haven't tried and can't say I intend to), but I do know the key element of dowsing is the believe (or at the very least the lack of skepticism) that dowsing is possible.   How people get the results they get is W-I-D-E open for debate and get very heated especially when you get true believers and pure science (if I can't measure it, it isn't real) skeptics involved.

Dowsing is a subset of a much larger domain that I call "Getting Inner Guidance". In dowsing the dowser is using a stick or rods or some other kind of dowser's "instrument". The instrument is just of way of physically identifying the answer. However, the person is part of the instrument and that opens a whole set of levels that the dowser has access to.

In electronics the person can use some kind of meter or oscilloscope or ?? to measure response to a signal. The difference is the dowser, whether he/she is aware of it or not is a multidimensional being operating not only in the physical realm but in the mental, emotional, and higher spiritual levels of consciousness. So depending on the level of consciousness of the dowser he/she can access virtually any domain that exists in the universe.  And that is a lot more that water!
