I worked for a time with an old well driller and he always said the water is where you drill it. We were drilling with his pounder and a big fancy rotary set up and started drilling on a lot a couple hundred yards away. The rotary got water at >300ft and we hit water at 45 feet. The ole guy told me that drillers get paid by the foot!   Also said the rotary has a tendency to close off side streams with the rotating bit. One well we did was around 50 feet with 10 feet of water, so we went some more to make a good pocket and hit a freakin coal mine,,, lost the water!

yeah, that does tend to happen if you aren't careful and don't know the historical geology of the area

Yea. Was in sw PA. Coal mine shafts everywhere. I remember when I was a kid a neighbor went to get his car from his garage one morning and opened the door only to find the car had dropped about 10 feet into an old mine shaft.  Smiley
