I would be having a better look into this one if it was a bit closer to home.   Cool

Hello All

Old age and trechery will always win over youth and strength anyday Cheesy

I must admit I have never been really sold on this story. It reeks too much as a publicity scam to sell books. But that is just my opinion.

Hardluck

I would have found it much more believeable had there been no book. This is one point that troubles me. Other comments that I picked up on set off warning signals too.
Mr. Fenn saying this story would last a thousand years. How can you be sure unless you know no one will find it any time soon. Is that because there is nothing to find perhaps?

I would like to believe it's real, and if I lived close I would probably look into it. Sad thing is some folks will probably raid the family piggy bank to hunt for it and come away with nothing.

Well if all is true as what was said then he hasn't buried it. Xav is in South Africa so he's about as rural as it gets for America.   Grin Sorry couldn't resist.

If...IF... he did hide the treasure I agree he did not bury it. From the clues comments and the fact he wants to be buried with it I would guess cave or more likely cave behind a waterfall. A man spent his life digging up stuff knows what dirt does to paper and he wants his memiors to last. That says to me it's likey somewhere dry and open. If there was anyone with him the secret probably would have come out by now. You know the story two can keep a secret if one is dead...

Well I am still on the fence on this one but am leaning to it just being a stunt to self prompt and sell books.

Mr. Fenn claimed to be a art dealer and treasure hunter but I have contacted over a dozen old time THers in the area and nobody has ever heard of him.

Is the story true? Maybe a million bucks ain't  a lot of money to pay for immortality now is it.

That's the real question isn't it? I can see myself doing something like that if I had the money just because I am fond of the old legends. I just think the book sale puts a shaky slant to it.
