Hello, and my thoughts on your question.

At present the only logical answer regarding optimum rod length, must surely be related to maximising 'sensitivity' and practicalities of usage.

If they are too long or too heavy, then their balance in the hand will affect their basic physical stability.

I personally think that the rods are sensitive to the influences of electrostatic fields created by localised 'phenomena.'

Whether those fields exist due to purely charged sources, or E fields associated with magnetic fields, is something that I can't honestly say I have been able to differentiate.

The dowsing effect is a fascinating subject, and I am able to experience it with virtually any form of metal rods of random lengths. Alas, I have not spent time trying to resolve just what it is that may be causing the reactions affecting the rods. I cannot interpret them in any meaningful way, but I do have my own theories as to why such sources as flowing water, can create an 'aura' that forms the field which influences the divining rods.

)))))))))))))(((((((((((((((((

After that brief ramble, then my opinion is that rod length is not critical for general searching.

The main criteria are 'good balance' and minimising their susceptibilities to inertial wandering and windage.

All the best, and tell us about your intentions in using them....Matt

Hello Matt and thanks for your reply. just looking at my brass rodds now, im thinking I maybe able to get a couple of sets of dowsing rods made. Though one would be a mini version.
I can probly get more brass rod as it came from a friend of mine and he has quite a lot.
After making the rods, I plan on doing a few tests to se how the responce is. If I get some good results, I plan on useing them for treasure hunting / gold prospecting & possibly go on to make a MFD kit and go from there  Cool

See if this helps.

Bottom rods are bearing type with extend able antennas 3 1/2 to 15 inches.

Next up are copper with wires for resistors, ground probes, or mfd input 9 inches long

White handled one is pure silver with 23.5 KT gold on tip 12 inches long

Brass rod 23.75 KT gold tipped with 13 KT behind that in a gold loaded handle hooked to a v/resistor 1/8 dia  16 inches long

1/8 brass rods 16, 20 and 24 inches long w/23.75 and 13 KT gold on tips

Top 2 rods are brass 1/4 dia gold tipped, 1 in a gold loaded handle hooked to v/resistor 16 and 24 inches long

Hope the picture goes through.

hello fenixdigger, what would you say is the best general rods for dowsing or does that depend on what you are looking for ? How about for gold ? What would you recomend for
serching for gold coins or nuggets.

that's hard to say. I hunt with 5 other guys and each one likes a different one. The gold tipped ones seem to do the best on gold. Good luck
