Go Up Go Down

I will state for the record that:
1) I am a firm believer in logic, science and reproducable results.
2) Notwithstanding the above, I also believe the human potential has barely been tapped and there is much to learn about it.
3) I therefore keep a VERY open mind on dowsing, and a not-so-open mind on certain LRL devices that looks like a pocket calculator glued to a water pistol.

I will firstly explain a scenario, and at the end of this post will pose a question to all dowsers out there.

A kind gentleman in this forum had offered his help as a dowser in my endeavors. I gladly accepted his generous assistance.
I gave him the name of a town, and he retrieved the necessary images from Google Earth. Several targets were dowsed on those images.
One of those targets looked very close to one of my dig sites. I popped down the next day and took a GPS reading with my Garmin. The reading was averaged out 11 times with 8 satellites locked on. The difference in the latitude and longitude or the gentleman's dowsed spot and my waypoint was a scant 1.02" and 2.73" respectively.
The gentleman is about halfway across the planet from me, had no inkling as to where I was digging, and has in all probability never been to that town before. For his efforts, he shall have a share in any findings, upon my honor!

My question to all dowsers is: HOT DAMN! HOW THE HECK DID HE DO IT?

Practice, practice, practice until you become proficient.

I will say don't expect exact locations from Dowsing Google satellite photos.  First, their coordinates don't always match GPS coorordinates in the field. Sometimes they can be a half mile off, so go by the terrain features on the photo. Second, the smaller the scale, the farther the Dowsed location will be from the actual target. Third, the angle of the photo will distort the actual target location.

If the scale is 1 inch = 1 foot, and the photo was taken from directly above the target, the Dowser can be spot on.  Map & Photo Dowsing can give you a good starting point for a search. Finding exact locations require being on site.  That is where a good LRL, can save time & money in the field conducting the preliminary survey.   Dell

Dell: thank you for your reply. The gentleman has indeed devoted much time and effort to hone his craft. I am aware of the distortions caused by small-scaled maps and photos, and never expected pinpoint accuracy from that dowsing scenario. A variation of 1 second translates to about 103 feet off-target. Bearing in mind the conditions this gentleman was working under, it's a damned good dowse if you ask me!

Brian aka goldigger aka nose-that-is-not-long: No doubts here, man. Like I said, I keep a VERY open mind on this matter. If anything at all, it's spurring me on to try my hand at the craft.
