Go Up Go Down

Found in wooded location where i found the buckle, Southwest of England
Quite rare they were manufactured by Elley for only a short period because shortly afterwards they produced the centre fire as we know today.
To my suprise they have know ref in there book, and also not mentioned on the elley site.

Approx age is around 1880 made of brass, Notice the fireing pin which the hammer of the gun strikes.

I found 3 of these all within 20 meters of each other they vary in depth but the bores remain the same

Anymore imfomation that anyone can give me would be useful

Kind regards

Dave

Hello Dave,
Those are nice little finds you have there, Not to mention valueable
In the Antique Gun Parts market. Brass firing pins are amost obsoleate to find these days. as are brass bolts. I will check in my library of gun books and see
what I can find out for you. One thing is unless you can find the type of shotgun
it was made for there is no need to clean it ( or sanitaze it as it it called in the gun world) I do know that certain rare firing pins can fetch as much asd one hundred dollars or more in american money. Finding a firing pin let alone afew in the same area tells me that there are more parts around or even a total weapon
the condition if found would be another issue. I would suggest going over the area again and see what you can come up with. as soon as I can locate what your firing pin goes to Ill post it for you. If you have any other questions just ask
or send me a pm. Looking forward to your post and finds. Best Wishes...Rob

Thanks Rob
To be honest when I found the first one, I didn't have a clue what it was, and asked various people in the antique trade and also people that belong to a gun club, no one had a clue, it wasn't until i posted it on ukfinds, that I got information to what it was, by all accounts a hammer used to hit that pin side on but this information was off only one person, i never had any other feedback, i found out about the dates etc from a ex ballistics officer who wrote a book all about cartridges etc, I emailed him and got no reply, and you cant get the book for love nor money.
Anyway Rob the more you can find out about these the better, and soon as I get time I will go back to see if I can find anything else that relates to them.
All the best and many thanks
