I found an empty bullet case and later in another location a bullet that fits in the case. I wonder if they go together. Please bear with my ignorance about guns.

That wouldn't be the casing from that projectile because the firing pin mark indicates the bullet has been fired while the bullet looks different than it was if fired at close range. That bullet looks as if it has been fired from either a short charged cartridge (not likely) or from a very long distance. If they were found close together and had come from the same event, that bullet would have been mushroomed or distorted somewhat. The striations on the bullet indicate to me that the barrel was a short one, probably a .38 caliber.

GD thanks. The bullet is 100% unlikely to be from the case in the pic. The two pieces were found at remote locations from each other. It just that it fit the case and I was wondering if the bullet goes in that type of case. Your answer is no, it doesn't and I take that. So the case is .45 and the bullet a probable .38

I trust you realize how close in size they both are, right? Impossible to tell by the picture which it is.

The pic below shows another bullet I found and I was told is a 45 caliber. The one to the right I was told is an old .22.

LoL

Looks like a .45 ACP to me.

They are not high velocity rounds.

If you have ever fired any, you would notice you can actually see them going down range.

Commercial Rounds are only doing 800-940 Foot per sec.

The 45 does not Mushroom like a High Velocity Round would.

.45 is the Cal , inches.

as per your photo, it's .45.

Been there , Done That, Have that T - Shirt.

Thanks Homefire. Enjoyed watching the video. Still not into guns, although I had bb and pellets pistols when I was a teen.
