I picked this up several months back. Its a Turkish copy of the K-98 stamped 1942. The rifling is like new and it shoots dead on. The 8mm is an awesome round and is pretty close, ballisticly  , to the 30-06. You can get them comparatively cheap if you shoot the Romanian surplus ammo. For hunting you can get new ammo from a company called Prvi Partizan located in Serbia. They make a very good round thats lead tipped and 196 gr.

HI Superduty,
That is a fine looking Mauser you have there! and the date is nice and crisp as well as the other markings! even though Mausers are relitivily inexpensive at this time, You have a nice WW11 collectors piece!, I myself collect WW11 items as well as arms. This will go up in value, I wouldnt do anything to it, other than shoot it!!, Thanks for sharing the pics, am looking forward to reading more of your posts,,,,Best Wishes....Rob

Nice looking rifle! I picked up a couple a few years ago but they are not as nice as yours. Still have one and sold the other a few months ago. I sold the one for more than what both of them cost me originally. They have really gone up in price! There used to be surplus Turkish ammo available on the market cheap but it was spotty on reliability and pressures. Made good cheap plinking ammo though. Good luck and enjoy your great find!

America? I basically stold this one for $75.oo!! They really have gone up in price! I see them all the time going for $220 on gunbroker. I see them in shops with price tags asking $250 even for the knock offs. The German ones pre-43 are really going up. I remember them with the stamped eagle going for $150. The guy I got this one from had several that he bought in lots, you could get them for about $45 if you bought three or more at a time, and he was going to strip them down and make one really nice one. He said they set in his basement for several years and he decided he was never going to get around to fixing them up so he just wanted his money back out of them. I should have bought the other ones from him when I had the chance. My brother got them and sold them all except for one which he end up getting for free after he sold the extra ones.Thats what I should have done... Cry

You have a Kick butt Rifle there.

Cheaper then Dirt offers ammo for it from time to time .

Your going to find that some ammo runs better then others.

German, Turkish and others was bored a few .001th  or so different.

This rifle is commonly referred to the KKale model by collectors.  I have 2 and one clunker I turned into a custom 6.5mm Sporter.  The 6.5mm M96 swede barrel will bolt right on the Kkale action as both are "small ring".  6.5 S barrels are still available. Onus

Mauser rifles are very good. Old German quality. How is the quality of the barrel?

He said the barrel was in good shape.  But you really have to watch it when you are buying one, cause some of them are just junk.  The one I converted had a shot out barrel and was basically a parts gun.  I decided that since I had a spare Swede barrel I might as well do something useful with it.  I don't ordinarily want to do anything to my collectables rifles but that's how my 6.5 "Tweed" came about. onus
