i know this getting off topic but i agree wiyh treasure hunter01253 never carry a substandard gun for protection, even here in crazy calif. if the police confiscate your gun you will get it back if its a legal gun and it was'nt used in a crime. it might take 6 months (in la, sf) so make sure you have a backup at home.

always take a pix or two of the gun and record the make, model, serial # etc. and if you turn it in get a reciept, if its confiscated also ask for a reciept its the law in every state that they have to give one. if they refuse file a complaint with internal affairs they are in trouble.
of couse if its stolen, serial # filed off, or you were waving it around in public your not getting it back Cry

if your curious about the status of any of those guns (acually stolen, destroyed etc.) you can call atf in your state, for a list of them you will probubly have to write.
coincounter75 might have had a problem depending on how old or what model the guns were, some old guns never had a serial # tho start with.

Hello and Welcome;  the guns are long gone, probably not destroyed but collected due to the fact of pearl handles, handles like that are usually only put on expensive and or old guns. You usually need a judges order to dispose of weapons and might be the beginning of your search, try the clerk of courts in your county for the order. Hope this helped. Rick !!   Detecting
