Go Up Go Down

I just want to throw this out there to see if anyone has an idea what might be wrong.
I went to the beach the other day with my F75 (original not ltd or se) and all worked perfect. The next day I deceided to clean it because it was covered with sand. I hosed down the coil and shaft about half way up, unscrewed the base of the coil from the shaft and cleaned out the connecting parts, I dried everthing and put it back together. Water never came in contact or even close to the electronics.
I went to do some 4th of July hunting and everything seems to work ok except there seems to be alot of static sound now. I thought maybe it was the new location I was detecting but used it today at a local hunting ground and its still humming and buzzing. I checked the batteries and they are almost new, I did a factory reset and the noise is still there but it occasionally seems to quiet down only for a little while. Any Ideas? There is no coil cover on the detector. I'm thinking I may need a new coil.
Let me know what you guys and gals are thinking any help would be great.

LiBear, It sounds like water has got in the locking nut area where the cable comes out of the coil,
there are a couple of things you can do here, First of all Undo the nuts that support the cable completely
and stand the coil up so the hole is the highest part of the coil and leave it that way in the sun in a window
for about a week or so, So the water will evaporate out the hole and then try it also check the seems around
the coils for splits or holes then if all is well put silicone around the flange then screw the first nut on then
put silicone around the plastic cable support and then put on the second nut and tighten it but be careful the
silicones will take up alot of space and you could strip the thread, and let it dry then try it again,
other than that the next step is talk to Fisher and see what they can do for you, hope this helps, HH

Ok. I gonna look at this as any old detector, some of know why. Lmao.
Is there a coil cover? If so,remove that and clean bottom of coil and cover to get rid of any salt that may be trapped there. This,i think can do this to a detector. I reckon its the salt giving a signal.

Sand/salt in the coil cover was my first thought but seeing as LiBear said  there is not one on the detector
that put an end to that,LOL

When you say you hosed the connecting parts, what exactly are you describing? Nuts, bolts and plastic ears?

The tip of securing your coil wire to the shaft of your detector from the coil to around the 10 inch point has been mentioned often here. Secure it with wire ties, Velcro(tm) or just string and keep the wire straight from the coil up to that 10 inch point. Only begin wrapping it around the shaft from that point upwards. Modern metal detectors are so sensitive that they can actually sense their own coil wire so stopping it from moving will eliminate jittery signals.

If you have never had your coil in water before and this just happened out of the blue, you may have a defective coil where water can seep in via the seal around your cable where it enters the housing. Look at it carefully and use a hair dryer set on low and held at a distance to dry the seal out. If that fixes it, contact Fisher to see about getting a replacement coil or, if it is out of warranty, seal it with Silicon RTV after you dry it out. To accelerate the curing process for the RTV, you can douse it with vinegar and water mixed 50/50. Use two plastic bowls for the dowsing of the RTV. Pour your solution over the joint, catching the runoff in one bowl. Switch bowls and repeat the process. Air dried RTV is better but for those in a hurry, use the vinegar treatment.
