Fisher Gold Bug SE, Tracker IV
« on: January 07, 2011, 11:58:08 am »
Go Up Go Down

I'll start a thread on the Gold Bug SE just in case someone else owns one too.  We can compare experiences and trade tips.  The new Gold Bug they say, is a special edition that won't be around long.  Big deal.  It has:

19 khz, 5 inch coil, manual ground balance, auto tuning, digital display, all metal and disc modes, two tones, target ID, depth indication, pinpointing, to name a few of its features.

Anyone else out there own one?

I have never used one but thanks for starting this thread. The more reviews we have the easier it is to answer that question that comes up every few months " What is the best detector out there."

P.S. Will it find aluminum?Huh?Huh?Huh?Huh?

Fisher Gold Bug (from the manufacturer)

Threshold and Gain Adjustments
1/4 and 1/8 Inch Headphone Jacks
1 - 9V Power Supply
Lightest Weight / Best Ergonomics in the Industry
2 Search Modes: All-Metal and Discriminate
Large LCD Screen with 0-99 Numeric Target Identification Display
Large Target Alert
Depth Readout and Running Signal Strength Indicator
No-Motion Pinpoint
Computer Assisted Ground Grab and Ground Balance
Continious Ground Phase and Ground Mineralization Readout
2 Tone VCO
Super Sensitive

Posted on: January 07, 2011, 02:23:19 PM
Ground balancing is achieved in the all metals mode by advancing the threshold control to a barely audible signal, and then pumping the coil 1 to 6 inches over the soil while engaging the ground grab button.  When the numeric values on the screen stabilize, you're done.  Advanced users can further adjust the ground balance to get a weak, positive response when lowering the coil to the ground, but the manual does not explain WHY an advanced user would want to do this.

I went to my coin garden today with the gold bug and I can't find my dimes.  I located everything else.  Strange.  I pulled out more junk that the Micronta missed, even a BB size piece of iron at about three inches and nails at 6 inches.  Just no dimes.  I'm using the 5 inch head. I don't own the bigger coils.

I put the bug in discriminate mode and turned it up to full power.  Nothing chirped in the numeric range of a dime.  Then I put it in all metal mode and cranked it up...several hits but nothing close to a dime value on the scale.  I dug for an hour looking with my pinpointer...nothing.

I've never seen a finer collection of "can slaw" in my life, mate! Good work.

Where did your wife get the light saber? I want one.
