Go Up Go Down

So, I purchased a Gold Bug 2 late last year and have been very successful with it hunting for gold. I thought I might put up some of the tips and tactics I have learned and used.

Coil cover - a must, and seal the edge against debris. I pulled mine off and found black sand and debris. Masked the seam and sealed with silicone.

Sensitivity - All the way UP all the TIME.
Volume - All the way UP all the TIME. Use the volume control on the headset to lower the volume in your ear. I also switched from headset to ear buds.
Discrimination - Set to LOW (I really do want to hear everything)
LOW AND SLOW - is the swing pattern
Ground Ballance - constant adjustments, learn the tones.

I fabricated up a chop stick with a lead fishing weight epoxied to one end. I then marked the chop stick in one inch increments with a black felt pen. When in the field, I ground balance and put the chop stick on the open ground. I air check the distance for a signal. I then put the end into the ground the same distance the air check provided to see if I can get a signal, then move closer to the surface with the lead until I figure out how deep I can detect for that size target.

This prepares me for moving debris from the surface of the working area so that I get maximum penetration.

I dig EVERY TARGET even though I can usually determine a hot rock, bottle cap or square nails prior to  digging. I want to visually confirm and recheck the hole every time.

I grid the work area. One direction then 90° again.

Use the AUDIO BOOST on weak signals, recheck ground balance.

Ground balance with be effected working the bottom and then sides of ditches or tailings. You must keep adjusting to the next ground configuration.

ALWAYS use fresh batteries. Absolutely no reason to spend time detecting with less than full power. Li-On rechargeable 200 mAh.

Keep up the great work and you'll surely hit some huge nuggets.

Wish I lived in an area to go prospecting, but in upstate NY its kind of tough.

Cheers,  Great
Jim

Go Up Go Down

I have just bought a new GB2 with a six inch coil, I have had it now for three weeks and have been going over old diggings area concentrating on heaps. I am going over heaps I have already detected with a Whites GMT. I am amazed at how much I have missed. This is a great machine! I have detected over 50 tiny pieces of gold so far. I find if I run in Boost I have trouble telling the difference between hot rocks and gold, but if I run in Normal Mineralisation and Normal mode I can tell the difference. I have just bought some new Black Widow Headphones which I havent tried yet I am hoping they will give clearer signals to the headphones I am using now. What I have found whilst regular ground balancing is important, If you carefully adjust the threshold you will find one position which really makes the signals stand out. bye for now Neilo

I have got two rechargeable lithium batteries they are 8.4 volts 350 mah thinking about using them in the GB2 do you think I will loose performance with the lower voltage? I  have now got my new Black Widow headphones and am looking forward to trying them out on the goldfields. I have tried them out at home and they are very clear and can be very loud so I have to use the limiter mode. There is no doubt I am able to hear faint signals better through them.I will hopefully get out tomorrow and give them a try I just hope the weather is good.
