The Peace River I am referring to is in SW Florida, USA. Starting as a drainage ditch in Bartow, Fl and empties into Charlotte Harbour, near Punta Gorda, Fl.  Dell

I've been playing around with that chart for years.  I hope someone has better luck than I did with it.

Dell_Winders;

OK. If I were to tell you all about the Peace River, here, it would something like: ".....the toe bone connected to the foot bone, the foot bone..... " Is LONG.  Funny

A couple of gold-rush rivers run into it, guys even worked the Peace bars, in the 30's, during the depression, because they could make more money than working for $0.50 a day, for some farmer, IF the farmer had money. A good panner could pan 10 to 13 oz. per day, between the time the ice went out, and June high water. Now its got 2 dams and the gold doesn't renew.

I think gold was worth $20 or $24 an ounce, then, so it was huge money, but had to last a year. Of course, they would not have gotten full price.  Wise

I read about one guy (he wrote a good book) that had a sluice box, in the Manson River, in front of the store, who said he washed $1.50 per day, just to eat. He probably got 1/10 of an ounce per day, now worth about  $94.  No no!

The Suwanee river in Florida washes Gold down from Georgia, and when it floods, small amounts of flour & micron Gold are deposited inland, but so far I have never seen any ice in the river.

The Peace river in Florida, is only alittle over a hundred miles long and is noted for finding prehistoric Sharks teeth, Mastadon teeth, and fossils, when swimming with the Alligators.   Dell

Dell_Winders;

Ice on this Peace River, in BC, is thing of the past! The two dams drop water a total of 600+ feet, and if I remember right, the water GAINS 1 degree per 100 foot fall, so its about 6 degrees warmer.... than it used to be. It now stays open until far into Alberta. Its amazing, because I have walked across on the ice.... sure can't now.  No no!

The gold in the Peace, here is about 2 mm and down to non-visible without a lens, as you go up-system, into the Nation River and into the Omineca River, the gold is commonly as large as 4mm  flakes.... very thin, so thin it can float, because of  surface tension.

I got a "flake" as big as my little finger nail, in 20 Mile Creek, which flows into the Omineca, I washed it out for my partner, out of a layer of red clay (he wasn't a good panner then,) so he could show his wife gold was real..... didn't help, she divorced him, over it, anyway.  Funny

When pan refining, the use of liquid detergent or jet-dry, just a drop or two, breaks the surface tension, so nothing floats away.   Wise

Something else, possibly interesting, is alluvial diamonds in gravel, over in Alberta. I got a PDF on it, a couple days ago.  Detecting

Surface tension.. hummmm.. reminds me of our sixth grade science project... floating a needle on water.. add soap and it drops like a rock... most people forget about surface tension... very good advice with the soap.. you also get clean gold... =)

ksightler;

The dishwasher jet-dry is also good, maybe better... it is like a super adjuvant, an adjuvant is also known as a water wetter. It kills surface tension therefore no  spots.... "the spot fighter."

IF you recycle THE water, you could use a small sluice concentrator, or even a rocker or a bumping table  (King Solomon's Special.) An ounce in a 20 gallon tub is probably too much. You don't want to use this stuff excessively, it is probably not good for the environment, but a couple drops per pan amounts to no more than 40 to 50 drops a day... if you are a hot-shot panner.

Go Up Go Down

Good day, I'm a newbie to this forum who's been lookin for pirate gold from the Panhandle to the Keys forever.
The info I've found here tonight is some of the best on Peace River & Lettuce Lake realities.
Question: Isn't Lettuce Lake now part of the park area and can we still "get in the water" there?
Tks
Jim

Pretty sure Lettuce lake is a County Park. There is a boat ramp with a hand full of parking spots and a few picnic tables.
