i'm happy to see the recognition of the double standards that some have in this hobby when it comes to detectors, but we need to get pro-active, refuse to buy products that are ripped off, stop manufacturers taking production to china, make them fully aware that chinese companies will continue to produce their designs after their product run has stopped (india too).
rigidly enforce copyright and patents, place import and export bans on culprits, it has to be done or it will lead to world war III, that is not a joke its fact.
if this problem is not tackled, ultimately all china goods will be banned, at least in the eu, since quality and saftey can not be relied upon.
i know this sounds alarmist but just imagine what will happen if north korea does attack the US and china backs them? an instant trade embargo on china will result .
its all about political will we can take action, we can take action that helps us and protects chinese trade, in a way we have to the ulimate alternatives are too grim to think about. Wise

dont know what happened here this was a reply in the "if you build it they will copy it" thread but ended up a new thread lol

   People tend to lean towards saving a dime if they can.  We know how that works out most times.

There are two truths.
I am against copying of designs of other people on an industrial basis.
The other side is that there are many patents that are fraudulent in my opinion because the design has been published before by others industrial or hobyist or the design contains no real innovation but merely a small modification or have been widely used and published in other fields than detectors.

examples:
using faster chips or chips with better specs (lower on-resistance for switches, higher max voltage, or lower capacitance)
using multiple coils
dataprocessing using FFT
optimizing or having multiple time constants in one device
using audio chip to manipulate the charging of the coil or for data-acquisition and processing
using non-linear opamps, ADC's DAC's

more innovative may be:
charging the coil with high voltage during short time followed by a longer period of lower voltage (to shorten total charge time)
uncoupling the coil and/or resistor to shorten flyback
recuperation of the flyback energy
and a few more that I saw on this and other forums

Karel

**  I had to Snicker on this one.  No Names mentioned but one Detector Maker has Attempted to Patend the Basic Operating Principle of the Transistor Oscillator before.

examples:
using faster chips or chips with better specs (lower on-resistance for switches, higher max voltage, or lower capacitance)
using multiple coils
dataprocessing using FFT
optimizing or having multiple time constants in one device
using audio chip to manipulate the charging of the coil or for data-acquisition and processing
using non-linear opamps, ADC's DAC's

***  With Higher Speed Processors many Old Ideas never quite feasible can be done.

more innovative may be:
charging the coil with high voltage during short time followed by a longer period of lower voltage (to shorten total charge time)
uncoupling the coil and/or resistor to shorten flyback
recuperation of the flyback energy
and a few more that I saw on this and other forums

***   Most of These Idea's have in fact been employed in the Hobby World with various levels of success.  Some not so Successful or at the cost of shorter battery life and other issues.

Karel
