Go Up Go Down

I'm planning a trip to Utah and want to mine for trilobites and other fossils.  There's a place I believe called "U-dig" mine and a couple of Fossil quarries in the western part of Wyoming.  I would also love to find red beryl or bixbite (how cool would that be???) but I know that's probably a rare find.

Does anyone have experience with these places or other suggestions about where some gem hunting can be done?  I know there's an opal mine in the northwestern part of Nevada, however, my time is limited there and I want to make the most of this trip!

Thanks in advance, Linda

Hay Linda,

I do not know anything about gem mining.

Littledave is our Arkie gem minin specialist.

He finds diamonds too.

But I do have a question.

Do fossels have any value?

I knew a place where I could find lots of
fossels. They looked just like the ones
you see in books and stuff.

I just never thought much about it, other
than it was neat to see tha fossels.

I never took any home.

Happy Huntin,

Tabdog

mining woman;

If you go to the places  that advertise saphires and Bixbyite, you get the best of both worlds, but dont go to the ones that say they have Missouri saphires, because that is a bit ingenuous.

The magazine Rock and Gem, had an article, on this very thing in April, May or June, I dont have it handy, sorry. I think I recommended them before?? Funny

Are you looking for some of the irridescent fossils? Petrified wood?

Anyway, if you get the article you can contact the places on the web. Wise

Sure wish I could got collect sapires, wo! Envy!
