Anyone like collecting amber?
I love this stuff.
I've been fortunate enough to get a few bits with insects inside.
Bought a quantity of "rough" Amber off Ebay a few years back (still got some to polish!)
You can occasionally find it on the beach on the east coast here.
I'll try and post a few photo's if I can get the quality good enough!

Did you see the BBC news, a couple of weeks ago, about the worlds oldest spider web found in amber on an East Sussex beach? I dont know where these places are, in relation to where you live, but I thought, as I read it, that it sounded like an interesting area. Sue

"Fossilised charcoal was also found in the fossil beds near to the amber at low tide on the coast between Hastings and Cooden.

"Most of the pieces are actually just lying there on the surface. You pick it up, just bend down and pick it up."

You'll find more amber if you dig a bit.  Smiley This piece was about 3 feet down.

Stonebreaker, the max dimensions are approx 21" x 15" x 9". Weight is slightly over 17.4 kilos. It's a hefty chunk, but not a "monster" piece. Wink
There are larger pieces in my collection weighing 20-29kg.

I have some nice tiny pieces too. Attached are 2 more photos for your viewing pleasure. Usually I attach a bail to these polished pieces and gift them to friends. Amber is a wonderful thing to find!
