Dino Bone

Out4gold:
Well I decided to get into a local creek and look for fossils.
I noticed as soon as I got there someone had beaten me there.
I walked it anyway and felt that they had been there while the
water was still up and had not cleared up from the recent rain.
I saw this bone in the gravel wash and just knew it was a goodun
as soon as I picked it up.
Vertebra possibly a "tail" bone.
Species well, still pending some research.
The other specimen is just a stone that had formed in a peculiar
form. Both of my finds are "Hematite".
Just one of the many "Specimens" I bring home and have my wife tell
me you got more???? [boxing]

Hi Out4gold

Just tell the wife that you're collecting them for a friend  ;) that stone that you found looks real interesting almost like ripples that solidified and as for the piece of vertebra, that is really nice. Well done to you and thank for posting them photos.

Fascinating.
I have to start looking with my eyes open.
Then again i pick up a shiny bit of whatever  from many meters away.

I had that problem years ago.  Then, I went on a school outing with my Granddaughter to the John Day Fossil Beds in central Oregon (not all that far from home).  When I first got there I couldn't see anything.  By the end of the trip I could spot many fossils.  Since it is a National Monument, it is illegal to pick up or carry off any of the fossils there.  But it was a great learning experience.  I made two more school field trips there with my granddaughters.  Fascinating stuff!

Thanks Jess B. for posting the pictures and telling your story.

Out4gold:
There are many states that do not allow collecting and many that do.
Property rights and permissible access are key.
Here in Texas we are allowed to collect but not in State, or National Parks and RCRA controlled areas.
Most roadsides here you are allowed to surface hunt but no digging.

golddustcarl:
Thanks for sharing the tip Bilder. I live in Phoenix, and I have relatives that live in Springerville. That would make a nice little side trip when I go up to visit. Do you mind sharing the location? PM me if you do.

wb4rav:
I have found several bone and plant fossils not far from my house where I deer hunt. Seems they just jump out and shout at me, "Take me home!"
