Hello all,

This Wednesday I made it out for a day of meteorite hunting.  Detecting  The morning was beautiful has I hiked in to the area. It started to get hot around 10:00 and by 11:00 I was glad I packed in a couple gallons of water. At about 2:00 pm the clouds moved in and the thunder started. The rain followed and cooled the temp wayyy down.  It was a little nerve racking sitting next to a detector as the thunder storm echoed through the mountains! Anyhoo, I had a blast and was able to get a couple more hours of hunting in after the rained stopped. Found 2 more after the storm!  Enjoy the pics of the irons and rare pallasite meteorites!!!

Thanks BA! Good hunting to you!

CS...Thanks!!    Keep looking. They are out there just waiting to be found!

10 to 50 meteorite dropping events occur over the earth each day. It should be remembered, however, that 2/3 of these events will occur over ocean, while another 1/4 or so will occur over very uninhabited land areas, leaving only about 2 to 12 events each day with the potential for discovery by people. Half of these again occur on the night side of the earth, with even less chance of being noticed. Due to the combination of all of these factors, only a handful of witnessed meteorite falls occur Each year.

Thanks all        Ironman

I've been a prospector or a long time (over 20 years) and people ask all the time, "Where can you find gold?" The answer is, "Gold is where you find it." It's the same with meteorites, they are everywhere. Some people will try to tell you you can't find XXX, (xxx=gold, meteorites, bottles, coins, etc) there. That's about a minute before you pull one out of the ground right in front of him. It has happened to me, so I changed my answer to it's where ever you find it. I told a guy he was wasting his time detecting for gold on one of our claims. I no sooner said that then he bent over and picked up a nugget that weighed about 1/4 ounce. Wow did that make me feel like a jerk. So the lesson is, never let anyone tell you where you will or won't find meteorites or anything else. ll you have to do is get out there and look. Of course we are all like moths around a porch light. If we see a guy hunting for something and then he finds it, we will all go where he was to look for other somethings. It's the same with fishing.
Happy Hunting

And Iron Man. Good finds man. When I first looked at the photo of the crystal I thought I saw a dollar sign $ in the dimple on the top part. Maybe that's an omen.

Daddio,   well said. When I first took an interest in meteorites I was told by several folks I could hunt my whole life and never find any. I have since found them in N.M. and AZ. the only two states I have hunted in. It took close to a year of hunting, several pairs of boots, damaged detectors, injuries etc but I never gave up!  That's why I will tell people that they are out there just waiting to be found. Of course like any hobby you must do your homework first and learn about it. Then you will not only educate yourself but also make it VERY possible to find them. Hunting them by eye vs a detector is another story and much much more difficult. I am sure many folks over lifetimes have even picked them up and thrown them back down. Heck I bet a few folks around the world have one and don't even know it!   Treasure takes many shapes and forms to different folks be it gold, meteorites and jewelry to name a few.  just getting out for the hunt is in itself a treasure! A person will never find treasure unless one  hunts for it!!!

Daddio, 20 years under your belt speaks for itself! Well done! Best of luck and good hunting!

WOW! those are great! I'd love to find some of those beauties. What state are those ones found in? Have you had any of them classified or ever thought of having it done? Congratulations!

idaho Jones,  thanks!

LiquidCowBoy,    the meteorites posted were found in a known strewnfield here in New Mexico. I have not had any classified as of yet. I have also had four of the best meteorite pros look at them to include Anne Black who owns Impactika meteorites. I am 100% sure they are iron siderites and rare pallasites. I researched them for quite some time prior to hunting for them. It only took about 3 months to find my first one!    Thanks for the kind words!

Hi Ironman,
Very nice finds you have there.  Reminds me of a New Mexico hunt several years ago with my old girlfriend, Glory.  Before the hunt, we stopped for a quick bite to eat, instead of a heavy breakfast.  "Glory ate a" bagel, and I had a donut.  We found lots of siderites and pallasites.  It was all because of our morning meal, I think.

                                                      Good Hunting,  Ben
