Steve, I have heard good things about the Goldbugs. I was just looking at the Minelab x-terra 705 to hunt around the city and also to use has a meteorite detector as well. What is your experience with it?

Xavier,  sorry it took so long to respond. I was on vacation and was out in the field. The best place to start looking for meteorites is where you live. Look up meteorites that have fallen near or around your home. Known strewn fields are a great place to start. They are never really hunted out! Here are a few good links to help you out. From Eric's site Meteorites USA: How To Find Meteorites and How To Identify Meteorites [LINKS] You can also get to his main page from either link. You will find everything you need to know there. Good luck and good hunting!!!

Alpa 77,  Hey I am no expert but judging from the photos they look terrestrial. The lower piece in the third photo shows what appear to be small pits or air bubbles. These are not found in meteorites. When you cut it was it easy to cut? Iron meteorites are very hard to cut. In the third photo on the top piece It appears to be broken. It looks like it was a recent break. Irons are almost impossible to break. I had one that was very very thin and we could not even bend it with our hands. They have a very tough composition. Check the links I posted for Xavier. They will explain how to do some tests on them which will tell you more. good luck!!!

My on-board antivirus warns that is a hostile site.  Not sure I should go there.

Hi Ironman - am new to this site - have you ever tried walking along a stone fence line with a long handled magnet or metal detector - if so how did you make out - so far in Ontario no luck - Bob T.
