i found a meteor

I found a meteor and I'm trying to find a place where I can have it confirmed. I had a geologist look at it and he said he thinks it's real.and I'm trying to find a placeI Can sell it. This meteor weigh about two lbs. Can any one help

UofA in Tucson Arizona should be able to help. We can't help you here to identify it until you post a photo. Keep in mind that most meteorite finds are not meteorites at all, but "meteorwrongs". If it is heavier than normal, a magnet sticks to it, it contains nickel, it has "thumbprint" impressions, or/and a fusion crust, then you have a 50/50 chance it is a meteorite. A lot of natural iron rocks can be picked up by a magnet, so don't get your hopes up to high. Document exactly where it was found. Meteorites usually occur in clusters and you will have a "strewn field.
Google meteorite photos and see if any of them look like yours. It has to be confirmed by experts that it is a meteorite if you expect to sell it.

Check with a collage that has a department with meteorites or find someone with a wet saw for stone. Have them cut a slab off and look at it with water and/or black light it might look like crystals or many different lines running a long the cut.

Be more positive that it is a meteorite before you cut it, as sometimes collectors do not want them cut. The lines you are talking about are windenstaten lines that after a meteorite is cut and polished it is etched in acid. If this pattern is found then it is definitely a meteorite. Some collectors like this.

The U of A are not doing them anymore. :-[ They were getting buried with meteor-wrongs, and decided to stop taking them in. However, if you email a picture to the Meteorite Man, he can usually tell you - though, nobody can be certain (even him) until it is sliced. The Widmanstätten patterns. Those can not only tell you if it is a meteorite, but where it fell from and what group they are from. Just one little point - which is why meteorites are so fascinating, even the experts have been wrong, because not all meteorites have the patterns - and, the "experts" have found several in last couple of years that they called "meteorwrongs", that they have now certified as the real thing. Just to clear the air, you did not find a meteor. You found a meteorite. A meteor is when it is in outer space. When it falls through our atmosphere, it becomes a meteoroid (falling star, bolide) and when it lands on earth or breaks up in the air, the pieces that you find become meteorites. (Little pieces of a meteor)
If you would like people to take you more seriously, it is a good idea to learn and understand the jargon.
Anyways, I hope for you that you did find a piece of a meteor. It would be something to tell your grandkids.
