"My first 'annual' expedition was in 1974 to Alaska's Arctic with just forty miles from the Arctic Ocean.  I have discovered hundreds of tusks and countless other fossils throughout this region. Every summer found me there and in the rivers which all flow north. My blogspot: <http:ancient-mammoth.blogspot.com> is more complete and in story form to some degree, eventually it will be compiled in a book format. In the early years, even though there were laws to restrict the collecting on Federal lands, (nothing was enforced) and actually almost all of Alaska is Federal lands of some sort or another.  I am currently unable to search these lands again and what tusks and bones are exposed will be exposed out of permafrost until they degenerate.  The scientific community, along with the Bureau of Land Management, now enforce fossil collecting with severe penalties.  I now look at Russia as before in the early nineties for my field activities.  It is much easier to travel in the Arctic Russia than in my own country. I will post more photos and stories of those 'bygone' years when it was a 'safe' adventure.  Bill Sidmore"

In search and willing to share discoveries, and unfortunately on the run from ignorant control systems in place to prohibit these rights.

hello William I've seen on the TV a doco type programme on the mammoth tusks in Russia. It was interesting and the tusks look about twice the size of the ones you have. The tusks on the programme were in very good condition, white colour and worth several thouand $$. they are sold to be turned into chess pieces...   Your previous post about the gold finds sounds nice. Have you got a detector / thought about having a go at it for your self.   Cool

The tusk looked in excellent condition to me. It sold for alittle over $1000.00 Do you believe that? It made me sick how that piece went so cheap. Auction house 63 is all I know maybe you can find something out about it. Dont know the show name. Its a new show.

The tusk looked as good as the 1st pic on the beginning of this post and even better than the 2nd pic

It sounds like someone got a sweet deal on the tusk.  Cool   Finding one of those would be  something, Some of the ones in Russia come with the Mommoth attached !!

Auction Kings would be the shows name on Discovery channel. Check past shows and you should find it.

Thanks for sharing your experiences.  I love the history of the mammoths and their fossils.

It's a very sad day when it is easier to travel in Russia than it is here in the US.

We the people have given up land and rights to a government that says do as I say not as I do or have done.

But did the Founding Fathers really intend for the federal government to permanently own 87 percent of Nevada ... 68 percent of Utah ... 50 percent of the land mass of California ... for as long as the sun shall shine?
The federal government already owns almost a third of all land in the United States. Which they currently cannot afford to maintain. Yet they want more!  Violent

Here's an article in the Las Vegas Review Journal from 10 years ago and things could worsen
exponentially in the latest government attempted assault on we the people.
(Perhaps China is requiring a lot of collateral.)

And an article on the current land grab plan -

Be alert that this attempted land grab will be tried again and again until we won't be permitted to set a foot off the sidewalk, never mind metal detect, camp, hunt, etc.
