I was expecting the border bud/meteorite guy to respond with rolling eyes, but he spared me  Smiley It's not like I have it in a bank's safe deposit box, but I do think it's real. Sue

That would be really cool to find out that it is real.  Best of luck and hope that it is.

Yeah- it doesn't look like a meteorite to me. Just a water worn rock from the looks of it.

Suppose it could be one of the rocks that the glaciers brought to the area. Sue

95% of all meteorites will be attracted to a magnet since they contain varying amounts of iron and nickel. No attraction- chances are very slim for it being a meteorite.

It makes a compass move, but a magnet doesn't attach to it. My mother in law reported a white streaming, hissing object causing a boom that was headed the direction it was found earlier. I wasn't out meteorite hunting - just attracted to the rock that was like no other since I used to collect rocks. Later a nearby farmer sold one that he'd had in the back of his pickup truck for a long time &  the sale was reported in the area paper. I read that, read about the Brenhams in the library and looked at other meteorites online. One looked similar to the rock. No biggie to me if it is or isn't - easier if it isn't, actually.  Grin Sue

Hi Sue, I thought you may be interested in the pieces of meteorite I have detected, they are from a site South of Alice Springs in central Australia and are pieces of the Henbury Meteorite. There are several craters, none are very deep now. It is classed as being Nickel Iron variety.  The whole area is now a National Park so further detecting is prohibited.
I found the Tektites while detecting for gold in Western Australia.
Regards, Brian.

Those are really neat, Brian! I've attached a pix of the crater since I went out online to check it out. Glad that you got to detect the area before it became a park. . . . great timing. I've always thought I was meant to be have been born in Oz and the silly stork made a wrong delivery when I was dropped off in Kansas  Cheesy  Sue
