"On Sept. 25 at 9:03 p.m., the sky lit up with a fireball that scientists believe crashed somewhere in a 12-square-kilometre patch of land near the edge of the Niagara Escarpment above Grimsby."

No one has found it. These guys in story seem to just be using broken golf clubs and metal poles poking around. Sue

I thought of you when I saw the paper was from Hamilton  Smiley No idea if it was anywhere near you though. Be sweet if you could come upon it. Good to hear that some used detectors. I'd have put a magnet on the pole - maybe they did and whoever wrote the story didn't say. Sounded like it must be a big area - I can't visualize metric . . . sigh Sue

Yours doesn't have a meteorite indication?

All kidding aside, the most common meteorites contain large amounts of iron or nickle. Rare types may be just plain old rock. Some speculate that they are only rare because they have no means of detection. They believe that most of us have picked one up and just thought it was a rock rather than from space. Rock meteors sometimes have burn marks on one surface as opposed to rocks that have been in a fire which have two or more surfaces burned.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Strange rocks? Aw . . . Maybe you should get to know them better so they won't be so strange.

Well, a golf ball sized fragment of the meteorite has been found. Not out in the fields. Inside a SUV - where it smashed the windshield, in southern Ontario. Just never know where you"ll find one. I hope, what was a pain to discover, was a pleasure later and scored them some extra cash.   Smiley Sue

Important find though - "We can also figure out where it came from and how it got here, which is rare. In all of history, only about a dozen meteorite falls have that kind of record,"

I'd like to look for this metorite too.  Where is Grimsby Fields?
Hi all,  I'm Dottie from SC.  My husband and I are avid rock hounds and treasure hunters.  We recently caught the meteorite bug.  Although I know threre is no cure for this we are some how managing and hope to come through this with flying colors.  We are interested to know if there is anywhere in SC that we can hunt for metorites.  We have no clue where to start ie.. how do we know where meteor showere happened.  Thanks everybody.   Dottie
