Hi Dottie and welcome aboard! Grimsby is a town on Lake Ontario in the Niagara region of Canada. Here's a link of some South Carolina meteorites. Looks like only 6 have been found. To know of a freshly fallen one, you either witness it or hear about it in your local news. What do you plan to search with?  Sue

hi dottie, to get started i'd recommend the advice of the master bob haag, look where meteorites have already been found.  it takes a lot of time in the field to be successful so a location near your home is a big advantage.  check local museums/uni for displays to train the brain on what you are looking for.  Aside from 2 falls, the meteorites in your area are irons, good news as you can search with a metal detector for more pieces.  iron meteorites are so abundant and cheap these days, check ebay, you can purchase a couple to practice detection.  Hand held detectors are good for nugget shooting, turn off discrimination and dig everything, yes you will come up with a lot of trash and if lucky a meteorite.  Larger specimens will require a different detector and approach.

You?ll need permission to search from the land owner, most areas are private land, I usually split 50:50 with the land owner.  Most folks are friendly, some are worried about liability, some will want to have nothing to do you, ?, just  play it by ear and have fun.

the map is from meteoritical bulletin using google earth, a very handy tool.

Hope this helps, it worked for me but we all have to find our own path, best wishes, don
