Hey all,

Are there any good (or great) locations in northern AZ (Bullhead/Kingman/Laughlin, NV) area to look for meteorites? I've heard up around Gold Basin is a good place to look but I'd like to hear it from the locals in this forum.

Please help, I can't wait to get out and go for M'ites and gold but I need a decent place to start! I can't stand coming home skunked after a hard day's work...know what I mean?

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Well, I know about one in North Easthern Arizona, and a couple more in the Phoenix area.  I haven't hunted the Gold Basin area, but I wouldn't pass up a chance to.

several folks on that list have spent a lot of time at gold basin, you may even be able to meet someone out there to help get started.  these folks helped a friend, he did very well searching the area after learning the ropes.  best wishes, don

Not to be a Wet Blanket but the BLM and Forest Service have taken the Notion that all Meteorites found on there lands (Used to be Our Lands) is properties of the State.

If you Find any, they are just interesting HOT ROCKS you want some one to check out.   Cool

Someones Interpretation of the 1906 Antiquities Act.

Any Open Ground is hunt able.   They don't discriminate. They fall any place they come down.

 Violent

That is sad to hear, I don?t think anyone cared in the past, wonder what prompted this action.  I?ve seen a few places effectively closed in the last few years, private and public lands.  At the core it is a rotten apple that spoils it for everyone else.

I think in someones mind,(no doubt a high ranking official in the BLM)  a precedent was set with the discovery of the Forest City Meteorite. Then the finding of the Old Women Meteorite reinforced it. For some reason this issue has just been brought up recently and the rules have been issued. Hey - who said government ever works fast???

Thanks for the advice everyone. It's too bad that the gov't has to poke it's chubby little nose into everything we do. Just let us alone to have some fun

The popularity of "Meteorite Men" probably also played a role in this too.

LOL!

Lets see.   If a Meteorite is a historic Item, Then what's Next? Rocks?

After all the Earth is nothing but star dust.   Every thing is Historic.
