Hey Monacoll....

By accident, I'll be in WI a week from tomorrow... I'll be visiting a friend who lives there..about 1 hour west of Madison...

We already have several targets of gold and silver set up.. but have decided to dedicate at least one day to the meteor debris.... a good frind of his told him this morning that very small rocks fell onto his roof of his house ..... this seems to be the begining of the debris field from the meteor... unless other reports come in further south to south-west of this area... Both he and his wife heard the sounds.. but didn't see the light of the meteor...

We are excited about it.  The machine we'll use easily detects nickle and iron meteorites.... if they are in the vacinity of which we are searching...

I'll post our results when I return in a couple of weeks or so...

Klondike Ike

Guess what? Ten hours later, I was standing out in the back yard here in Australia and saw a meteor. I sat down in my favorite outdoor chair and within a minute, saw another. The sky was an awesomely clear view to eternity between rain showers.

This fall should turn up some nice meteorites for sure. Some of the best meteorite hunters are already on the way to try and locate the possible strewnfield and make the first finds!

KlondikeIke, good luck on your hunt! With your friends friend living in the area and hearing them hit his roof should help you tremendously in locating the strewnfield. Keep up on the other forums before you go. I know they have Doppler images of the fall. You might have your friend check with the local weather station and see if he can possibly retrieve any information from them.

Csharp,  to be able to get $300 a gram for a meteorite it must be a very rare meteorite. For example in 2007 Martian meteorites were selling for around $500 a gram and some Lunar meteorites were selling for around $800 a gram. This will give you kind of an idea of how rare they must be to fetch a $300 per gram price. North West Africa or NWA meteorites can be picked up at the gem shows for as low as 10 cents a gram IF you find the right dealer. You can pick them up on e bay for an average of 50 cents a gram. Soooo  meteorites sell for many different prices depending on quantity, location of the fall, difficulty of the hunting terrain, demand and rarity to name just a few factors in the pricing of meteorites. Oh, and I forgot to mention the airing of Meteorite Men will also have an impact on the pricing and value of meteorites!                    Good hunting!!!
