Go Up Go Down

I know it has been a while since my last posting, but a great deal of events has had my time wrapped up.
After recovering from a very painful fall, I finally got to get out and hunt a favorite site near my home.
Although I have found this type before at this site and other places as well, most are not this well preserved nor as large.
This one is considered the extent of size for this species.

Found: West Arlington Texas.
Deposit: Grayson Formation
Age: Lower Cretaceous ~98 MYO
Family: Echinoid (Regular=Round) Sea Urchin
Species: Goniorphorus scotti

Till next time.

That is a truly fine specimen. How on earth did you ever see it?

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

These are really not that difficult to see.
I have a habit of seeking out tiny fossil crabs about half the size of a dime.
The crabs I look for are extremely hard to distinguish from surrounding matrix/material.
Anything else is easy to see with few exceptions.
