my wife and i were in franklin,nc this fall, went to a mine and found about 700 cts of rubies one of the bigger rubies looks like its gonna star. you can already see the 6 rays on one side of the crystal. there is a nice size garnet in the one of the pictures. catbird....

Catbird, you did much better than I ever did at the mines in that part of the country.  Those are nearly as pretty as your emerald.....I can only imagine what they'd look like cut.

Beautiful!!! Many years ago when I was about 15 I went on a trip to Pigon Cove (?) as a babysitter with a family.  I found many rubies and a very large garnet in the bucket of mud.  while the family and I were finding our treasures, the youngest ( 5 ) was playing in the run off of the water.  He comes up with a "Handfull" of rubies and garnets.  When we asked him where he got it, he showed us.  He just reached his hand into the swell of the run off and keep pulling up handfulls of what was many different sizes of stones. 

We each had to do the same and I still have my hand full.   Great memories and nice treasure too.  I hope to get there again someday.
