If I had a better answer for you than that one, I would give it to you.   Let's face it, if you have the professional paleontologists stumped, you could well have a new class of fossil there (even if it isn't strictly a new class in the biological sense).   I'll have to say that my first thought, after soft-serve ice cream, was that it looked like the twisted head of a crinoid stem......but with your experience you would have already ruled that one out.

I think that I have no clue as to what it could be BUT it is hollow and twisted the thing is that you are hiding the other end of this (what ever it is) thing. I like the idea of a horn but that probably can?t be mind you it dose look like an ice cream don?t it. Ok so how about posting the rest of it?

If that were the case they probably would have found more of them NO I think that it could be something that should not have fossilized like a snake skin and that is why he has the only one that we know of so far
