Maybe you could let them study it and have them sign an agreement saying that if tyhey destroy the specimen that they's have to pay you a certain amount of money...maybe then they'd not slice it up and send out the pieces to other places. Just an Idea...Good Luck On That!!!

I will attempt to take some more pictures of it and let you guys see more of the structure.
The idea of it being a insect burrow or egg casing came from a Paleoentomologist (fossil insects) that I met at a fossil show.
I had taken it into consideration to allow her to take it for study and possibly some non-destructive testing. X-ray is one of the methods she mentioned. I had allready refused to allow someone else to take it, he made no promises.
Still it does baffle me as to what it could be. Comming from an fossilized alluvial deposit finding anymore of it is highly improbable.
Any soft material that had been deposited in the material during the Cretaceous age was lost due to water tumbling at that time.
I find teeth from Dino, shark, fish and on occasion I find Dino gizzard stones in the matrix.
I have a section of the material it came from and will post a picture of it, it has a Dino gizzard stone protruding from it. Most people would not even know that the stone was anything more than just another "rock" just by looking at it. I have found enough of them, over the years, to make a complete study of Dino gizzard stones.

Got to go ,will get back with a picture soon as I get my camera back up and working.
My cell takes lousy pics.

I also have a gastric stone from a Dino, what i know about them, is the stone looks oily or maybe waxed, because of the gastric acids in the dino's gut, I think that is the only way to tell if it is a gizzard stone or not, unless it was found in the dino's gut when unearthed .

Xavier, This might help:    "Some animals that lack teeth will swallow stones or grit to aid in digestion. All birds have gizzards, but not all will swallow stones or grit. The birds that do employ the following method of 'mastication':

"A bird swallows small bits of gravel that act as 'teeth' in the gizzard, breaking down hard food such as seeds and thus helping digestion." (Solomon et al., 2002).
These stones are called gizzard stones or gastroliths and are usually smooth and round from the polishing action in the animal's stomach. When too smooth to do their required work, they may be passed or regurgitated."

If I remember correctly, chickens (especially those that feed on dried uncracked grain) are among the birds that use gizzard stones.

Hey, we all have our moments.....even those of you who have not yet obtained "senior" status  (Imagine how much more our children have to learn in school this year as opposed to the body of knowledge when we were there age.....but I wouldn't let them use that as an excuse NOT to learn a few basics  Wink )
