True story, an antique mall type store sold a ring they thought was just a large costume cocktail ring.  Person who bought it was a gem collector and was almost 100% it was composed of real diamonds in a plat setting not marked.  So for 15 bucks he bought it and then got an appraisal of 10k at a registered gemologist.  I went in the store shortly after that and it was like a funeral took place.  I have found plenty of marked gold and silver for pennies on the dollar at garage sales, estate sales, and even at auctions held out in the sticks.  Treasure is where the observant find it.

there are a lot of "asleep" lazy folks that when they clear out old grannys or aunt so and so stuff have no clue as to what is what -- they see what looks to be "gaudy" cheapo fake jewelry and sell it not knowing that in the 20's and 30's a lot of finne jewelry was very nutso artsy type stuff abd rather gaudy looking --their lack of knowledge and failure to check up on / learn what they got --is my gain  Cheesy
