That particular poster was really popular back when I was in college (i.e. during the bicentennial).   The atlas, though, is fantastic (and the paperweight is nice too.

The poster has been reproduced a lot over the years.   But I'd say 1974 to 1983 would be a very good guess.

Has anybody heard anymore form AceofSpades and what the outcome was on whether or not the poster was authentic or a copy (1878 or 1976) or not?  Sure would like to hear some more about it...   !            Detecting

I differ some but also somewhat agree with Mr. Seldom on the use of the Term of (The United States) but one things for sure, the term of or saying of: "The United States" was used before the Declaration and Constitution in my opinion.

My reasons are easy to see I think, I mean that term was used verbally since the revolution started in reality, it's what we were trying to achieve & form here in the New World, so the term existed verbally and I'm sure on paper one way or another before the declaration was ratified and drawn up and signed, that made the term legal eventhough it already was a semi commonly used term even during the war I think?

As a matter of fact, or at least in some historical state papers I've seen while living up here in the early colonial and revolutionary battle areas of upstate New York region of the country, the term & use of the words "United States" would have been and was used to address the (colonies or states) that were (united at any given time) I would gather to say just thinking about it, and while we were seeking complete unity and freedom from our English brother, the fight was for freedom from foreign rule, freedom from religious persecution & for a United States.

Freedom & Unity, and may we all think upon that freedom and unity we enjoy today, and for the troops that are still in harms way aboard. I pray they all come home safe & sound, but patriots make sacrifice's for the freedom of the people.

Best regards & Happy New Year,
Jim
