I don't know quite why it is but Las Vegas seems to have the best Garage sales and Thrift stores. It may well be because of the transient nature of the city or because of Gamblers getting lucky with Jackpots only to spend it on stuff and donating their older things. All I know is I've gotten tons of killer deals.

Garage Sales:
Craftsman 618 Timken Metal Lathe w/accessories $100.00 valued at $500.00
Keene 151 Drywasher $125.00 sold for $900.00
Pfaff Creative 4.0 Embroidery Machine $800.00 valued at $4000.00
Mountain Hardwear Sprite Tent $20.00

Thrift Stores:
Bernina 930 Record Sewing Machine $20.00 Sold for $800.00
Bernina 910 Matic Sewing Machine $15.00 Sold for $380.00
Bernina 830 Record Sewing Machine $25.00 Sold for $540.00
Bernina 730 Record Sewing Machine $25.00 Sold for $450.00
Pfaff 1221 Sewing Machine $15.00 Sold for $325.00
Husqvarna Viking 6690 Sewing Machine $20.00 Sold for $450.00
Husqvarna Viking 6570 Sewing Machine $15.00 Sold for $330.00
Browning Micro Midas II $8.00 Sold for $155.00
Cabela's Ultralight Backpack $10.00 Sold for $135.00
Zojirushi Bread Machines average $10.00 Sold for $60.00
Pelican case new $5.00 Sold for $80.00
Point Blank Level II vest $15.00 Sold for $75.00

Plus all the money I save on high end travel/hiking clothes:
BDU's average $5.00
North Face Jackets average $15
Columbia PFG wear average $5.00
ExOfficio average $5.00
Propper Adventure Tech $8.00

Forget the Casinos your best odds are at the Thrift Stores. Grin

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Not bad!!! Is that also why they always have really odd stuff on the "Pawn Stars" TV show? Grin

Your post here could not have come at a better time as we are going to Vegas in a couple of weeks. I will be sure to check out the grarge sales, thanks for posting this info. Smiley Already went to Pawn Stars last time out and I would suggest marking off your to do list if ever anyone go's.

Yeah unless your really a fan of the show and just can't resist, avoid Pawn Stars at all cost.

Here's the Thrift stores I frequent:

Deseret Industries - Good for everything - no sales but sometimes you can bargain with the manager.
Goodwill Stores - Good for clothes many new with tags - 50% of weekly color tag - .99 cent color tag on Monday.
Savers - Good deals from time to time - 50% of weekly color tags - .99 cent color tags on Monday.

Enjoy your stay in Vegas.

Miles

Thanks  MIles, when we where out there last Dec. we found other pawn shops with much better  deals than Pawn Stars. And much cleaner!

I definitely agree! LV is my other residence besides TN. I would definitely put Deseret and Savers above Goodwill as far as prioritizing. Goodwill has gotten very over priced, in fact my niece was looking at a well worn leather jacket there, which was priced higher than a new one at Macy's! My other niece was at Savers and found a new (with tags) Takamine guitar for $20. They buy tons of designer clothes and top end shoes, many of them never worn, for pennies on the dollar.  There are many bargains in LV if you can tear yourself away from casinos long enough to explore other places.

You have really scored big on those. The only thing I hate though is the new shows that are giving out the secrets of finding all the good stuff to turn around and make a profit.

I stay away from the Goodwolls anymore, they are to high. I recently saw an item that they had $3.99 on, as I looked closer, I saw the original new price on the item it was 99 cents.
