Garrett GTA500
« on: October 26, 2011, 08:09:21 am »
Go Up Go Down

A friend was cleaning out his attic and knowing I'm interested in electronics and such, sold me his Garrett Ultra GTA500 for a mere $5.00  --- yes FIVE dollars!  Shocked
It works fine other than the audio is inaudible. I will need to troubleshoot the audio board and if anyone can point me to a schematic diagram of this model, that would be great. Seems very difficult if not impossible to locate diagrams of Garrett MDs on the Internet. I know the Garrett company would frown on seeing a diagram posted here so sending me a PM of a link or an attachment would suffice. It detects very well and even the pinpointing function isn't too bad either. Descrimination mode is spot on. It has the oval coil on it and yes the battery holders are working fine, unlike other reports I've read about them.

Not trying to slight you here but have you tried to adjust the Threshold tone?

Do you have the Manual for it?

No offense taken, in fact thanks for the suggestion. I just started messing around with it and will need to look at this "threshold tone" thing you mention. I'm unaware of that and I should read further into the operator's manual.

That's a very good detector.   I sent my father the one my wife was using when we started "trading up" detectors...biggest reason I gave it to him is that I couldn't stand the cross-feed when I'd get close to her with my GTAx 1250 (that plus I fell for the Fisher F4 when I was trying it out).
