GoldDigger1950:
Holy, moley, man! That turtle points to Yamashita treasure. Follow the head all the way to the Philippines and dig. Just dig anywhere. According to the true believers there's treasure all over the place there. Billions. Trillions even.

JIMBY:
turns out the turtle pointed to treasure!! the two clay pieces are from south east Asia, the footed cup was said to be probably dug up from a tomb , which caused the glaze to deteriorate this was used for eating or drinking from .the small vase was for storing oil or herbs. they date back to the 13Th century. sorry for the poor scan of info ,not the greatest on computer technology yet.

JIMBY:
Hello, Thanks for the images,

Both are from Southeast Asia..i.e. Southern China or Thailand/Cambodia.  Judging by the deep dark reddish coloring of the unglazed area of the jar and shape of the cup with the flared foot/base.

The deep brownish coloring comes from large amounts of Iron in the clay used which oxidizes when fired. The likely date to around the 13Th C. and are both covered with an ash glaze.

The cup appears to have been buried and was most likely dug up from Tomb, which caused the glaze to deteriorate. The other was most commonly used as an oil or herb jar.

Similarly dark glazed pieces can also be found in China from the Hunan area, but the clay is geerally lighter in color , more of a Buff color.

You might find it interesting to search around on the web for Song Dynasty Jian Kiln Cups, here is a link to get you started.
