I got the regular coil that came with my ACE 250. I wanted to get the bigger one to hunt beaches. I went in to a local shop near Ocean city MD, and the guy tells me that each detector is set to work with the coil it comes with. He said it will work if i get a bigger coil, but the detector has to be "optimized" for that coil with a special machine to make it 100% effective with the bigger coil. Is this true? Sounded like BS too me, and this guy seemed like he knew what was going on. He did this for a living and had millions of dollars of stuff he found in his ship wreck museum. If this is false, why would he tell me such a thing? he told me dad the same thing when my dad asked him about "getting a bigger coil"

Thanks

The Ace250 is sold in several configurations one of which has a sniper coil and a large coil. They don't require calibration. There is a member here selling his larger coil. Search for the post and make an offer. He's a good guy.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I've got both coils and they work just fine. I don't have the sniper coil, but the 6x9 is small enough to get around playground equip and fence lines if you know how to hear the tones.....

Sounds like BS to me. I bought the 9x12 coil and it does great right out of the box. Just how much did this guy charge for "optimizing" your machine. I think I would stay away from this guy. I order my parts through garrettcentral.com.
