Go Up Go Down

I got my new ATP the day before Xmas and have done A lot of dirt diging with it and
it was great. This past few days I had gone to our Atlantic beach here in NC and
have been having A terrible time. I had  ground balanced  the machine to 15 and dropped the
sensitivity to 4 bars and tried both Pro and Strd modes. I am hitting false targets
99.9 % of the time. Yet it still works good in the dirt. I mean good sounding targets.
Take up A scoop of sand and recheck the hole and there is no target signal  or you dig A couple
of scoops and nothing or a disapearing signal . I have called Garrett and have one more
option to try. Lowering the ground balance and droping the Sen more. It could be the
coil and they said they would send me a new one but I will try the afore mentioned first and
see if anyone else has had this problem and a fix it solution. Any input will be greatly
appreciated. Thanks ARR!

Sounds like it could be.    Looks like you have tried what others have done to correct the problem. Angry

I had the same problem Saturday at the beach in Daytona Beach.  It had not done it before I sent it in for the upgrade but did start doing it now.  I tried changing sensitivity and kept groundbalancing.  No luck, kept chattering all around 37-40 and wouldn't shut up.  I finally tried to set the discrimination at 40 and it stopped all the chatter at least.  In dry sand it worked fine but as I got closer to the wet sand it chattered.

Thanks for the info. I just got back from the beach and had tried a few things.
I sat the ground balance as low as it  would go (11) and lowered the sens. down four bars.
It helped. I got some good hits but also some false hits. I still think there is somthing wrong
but maybe it is the operator   Undecided.   Then again maybe the ATP can't handle the salt in that area.
I am going to keep playing with it in different areas of the beach and see if there is any difference
there. Any more ideas out there hit me with them. Thanks ARR!

Where are You?   It could be the make up of the sands in your area but I don't think so.

Homefire. I am checking it out at JMP in Wrightsville Beach. Wilmington, NC. I have been going to the same area
to test it  but now I think I will move a few miles away or go to Carolina, Beach and see if there is a drastic change.

No matter the brand, there is no single frequency detector that goes well on the wet sand.

Sounds about right...

Sometimes less than other times depending on the content and salt chemistry, many times you can search the wet and get by okay, and other times have trouble getting decent balance and signal return.

Wrightsville beach is a tough place to search, especially to the right side of Johnny Mercers pier, that area seems to be full of iron bars from a wreck of many years ago. the iron bars are about 4-5" long by about 2" wide by about 3/8" thick, and there buried about an average of 14-16" deep in the wet and dry sand areas.

The Fort Fisher area of south Carolina/Kure Beach should be a good area, as well as the area of beach where the boardwalk area is at CB.

Cheers,  Great
Jim

Jim. Sounds like you have been swinging around here in the past. There are quite a few
who hunt here but most have minelabs etc. I can't afford those thats why I got the ATP.
I got it almost new. Anyway I will try further down the beach by the Oceanic pier and on out
to Pleasure Island. I'll keep you all updated. Thanks for all the info. Greatly appreciated.
Gary, ARR!
