I was under the impression that if I purchased one of the Garrett Ace 250 or 350 metal detectors here in Canada, that they would be configured to correctly identify our Canadian coins, but that doesn't seem to be the case.  Are these detectors configurable in some way so that they can correctly ID our coins, or are they strictly for US coins?  Is it a matter of ignoring the coin IDs and getting to know the visual ID numbers that relate to each of our coins?

My 350 doesn't have the "visual ID" numbers on it. It only has the graph that has metal/coin IDs.

Yet another reason I don't even look at the TID if the detector has one.   Learn the Tones and Tunes.

If you like to fine the rings, your going to have to dig the Tabs.

Just the way it is.

Your machine has specific tones for various Type of targets.

Look on page 19 of the manual.

You're right of course, Dion, neither of these has a numeric ID.  I was thinking of the AT Pro display when I wrote that.

Thanks for the manual reference homebrew.  Looks like there are only three tones put out by the 250.  Is there some fluctuation in the tones that will indicate the different US coin types?  It seems odd that listening to the detector would give less information than looking at the screen, but maybe that's just me.

Yeah, I know I'll be digging every hit I get no matter what detector I get, at least until I get to know how the detector better.  I'm just trying to figure out if Garrett has bothered to make a "Canadian" version of the coin indicator feature (just the labels across the top).

... I mean homefire, not homebrew!  Would be nice if the new post feature showed the last few posts you were just looking at.

LOL!  If I know your talking to me, you can call me all sorts of names.(As Long as it's fun)!

Never used the 250.     Like most detectors , I would assume that in all metal mode the tones would vary by Volume!

Either I've listened to my hard rock and hip hop music to loud over the years but when something hits in the silver range it sounds like a bell tone to me. Big metal (iron or aluminum) seem to hit in the silver/ bell tone area so I dig a lot of trash.  Where I see people with the VDI numbers are able to tell when it's iron or aluminum better than I can.  My friend uses an AT Pro and he can discriminate better. I wish they had the VDI on the 350!!! Just another assistance in discrimination.
