That should give him what he needs.   Problem with coil wires going to the board.

Thank You Eugene!

Hi Eugene, Thanks for the at4 dia I hope it will help me to figure it out. I am not an electronic engineer, I have an amateur radio licence and have been able to build and fix my equipment , also I fix clocks and pocket watches, so I have a great deal of patience.
Again thanks , From cold New Brunswick  Canada.

Post a photo of the Circuit board if you can.

Are there any wires still connected at all?

Garrett AT4    I put the wires on from outside of board bottom view ,white, red, black, green.  I got it to make some noise and it seems to pick up metal , but I have some trouble in the coil as it makes strange noises when I tap it or squeeze it in a certain spot. I will try to send a picture(second try lost everything on first try)

Squeezing the coil moves the relationship of the coils inside and don't think that a problem.

ff you bump or tap it and it does, something is loose.   Not good.

Go Up Go Down

Up date on AT4 with defective coil, I finally got  to the coil taken apart (no small job, it was made not to be taken apart , but I had nothing to loose) I found a loose solder joint on one of the coils , believe it or not the coil is made of aluminum wire and the solder joints were defective, I made an mechanical connection on the ground end and when I tried it again there still was a loose connection ( the connections are all filled up with silicone like material and have to be mined out to even get a small look at them) at this time the detector would turn on normally and would detect metal, when I was cutting the silicone away from the other end of the same coil it made a strange noise in the phones and now all it will do is make a 800 cycle tone in the phones when turned on and it continues as a single tone.  I am guessing when I was moving the loose connection I caused an inductive bump on the white wire and it damaged some of the electronics.  So far I have enough time in this thing probably to buy a couple good units, good job I am retired and do not pay myself very much. I put it away until I get some more imfo , if I am lucky maybe I will forget where I hid it.

Maybe we can come up with another coil for the thing.

Don't chuck it.
