Be careful, mate. If you make it too sensitive, you will be finding your own fillings when you dive or the buckle on your mask.

Don't laugh. It happens.

wow like a dog chasing its tail... LoL Looks like I need to do a bit of studding first... Have you any experiences with this?

I have not done any tinkering to my Sea Hunter. It works great as it is. Why mess with success? Know what I mean?

On the other hand, I am retired from electronics engineering and do a lot of my own design in metal detecting. I am currently experimenting with multi-node receiver coils that overlap a target to get an array of returns rather than just one. A computer then tells me where the exact location of the target is. It works great but lacks any reasonable amount of depth. I'm working on that, too. Sometimes, during the process of development, I scrap everything and start over. That gives me boxes and boxes of failed, but mostly working attempts.

Of course that has nothing to do with the Sea Hunter but you asked about experimentation. I get carried away sometimes.

Golddigger.

Changing one resistor on the XL500 or the 200 can pull sample times down to 17us from 40us stock.

Sure make them hotter on gold.

What does that accomplish beyond the normal response time? In water, I move slower due to physics and I think that is why Garrett designed the detector as they did. I suppose if I used it on land it might benefit but I cannot see how response time in water is an issue. The difference between 17us and 40us is impossible for humans to gauge without test equipment.

It allows the detector to sample faster after the Transmitted pulse has been sent..

Small gold is missed at 40us.

This allows the detector to detect objects smaller and or materials that have faster decaying eddy currents like Gold.

If you believe that and it works for you, great. Eddy currents in non ferrous materials decay much faster than 17us. Have you scoped the coil to see what they PI circuit is doing? If this keeps up I may have to take my machine apart again to have a look. There goes my next rainy day.  Wink

I'll get you for that.

The PI is hotter on iron then gold.

Eddy currrent of gold decay much faster..

In a point of fact based on physics, the eddy currents in may not decay for perhaps years after you put them through a field. That is the theory behind magnetic recording of all kinds. Gold will maintain an eddy current only while energized by a magnetic field.

Like other targets Gold will Ring!

Just not as long as other materials.  Hence pulling in the sample time allows the detector to see it better.

Magnetics does not rearrange the magnetic patterns in gold like Ferris materials.  If it does, it's not vary dang much.
